Speak Out on Utah’s Maps

Public comment on the Legislature’s proposed maps is open until October 6th. This is your chance to share your story and make your voice heard. Every comment matters—whether you’ve been directly impacted by gerrymandering or you simply care about fair maps and stronger communities.

Numbers and data are important, but stories move people. Your story is the most powerful tool you have. When you explain how gerrymandering affects your neighborhood, your schools, or your community, you make the issue real and personal, and that’s what creates change. Learn more about how to tell an effective story by referencing the graphic below.

As you craft your story and comments, you might find it helpful to revisit Proposition 4. Our guide gives you a simple refresher on the standards and requirements:

Once you’ve crafted your story, the next step is choosing how to share it. Below are some effective ways to make your voice heard. Click the triangle next to each category to expand each section to learn more.

Leave a Public Comment

For ease of access, we have linked all the maps the legislature is considering below:

You can also follow these steps to leave a comment on the redistricting site:

Step 2: Click on “View the 2025 Legislative Redistricting page here”

Step 3: Click on “Comment on 2025 Maps”

Step 4: Click on “Congress”

Step 5: Search the maps the committee will vote on. These are maps #233, 234, 235, 236, 237, & 249.

Step 6: Click on the comment link

Step 7: A new tab will open, click on “add comment” in the top right corner.

Step 8: Click on a point on the map–either where you live or another area of interest–to add a comment

Step 9: Fill in the comment fields and submit your comment! Be sure to label your comment as “dislike, opinion, or like.”

I missed the webinar on how to craft and submit public comments. Is there a recording I can watch?

Yes! The full recording is embedded below.

I’m seeing a lot of different maps on the redistricting website. Which maps will the Legislature vote on?

Until September 26, Utahns could submit maps. However, the Legislature has said it will only consider maps submitted by members of the Legislative Redistricting Committee. On the site, these are labeled Committee Option A, Option B, Option C, Option D, Option E, and Escamilla_Owens_Map. Use the buttons below to go directly to these maps without sorting through public submissions.

What map does Better Boundaries think is best?

We are not naming a preferred map while the case is still in court. What we are doing is laying out the Prop 4 standards and helping Utahns apply them to each proposal. When lawmakers choose a map on October 6th, we will measure that map against those standards, and for now, we’re giving Utahns the tools to do the same.
