Catherine Kanter

Catherine earned a BA in history from the University of Kansas and a JD from Northwestern University, where she served as a distinguished Wigmore Scholar and a member of the Criminal Law Journal. She went on to practice law for over a decade in Chicago as an equity partner specializing in commercial real estate transactions. Her experience in the local political arena includes having run as a candidate for the Salt Lake County Council, having served as an elected representative on the Granite Community Council, and as an appointed Land Planning Commissioner on the Salt Lake County Mountainous Planning Commission. Catherine has also spent many years working with various local non-profit organizations and championing causes such as addressing intergenerational poverty through her work at Neighborhood House.

Catherine currently serves as the Deputy Mayor of Regional Operations at Salt Lake County, where she oversees the Public Works Department and the Offices of Emergency Management, Landfill, Economic Development, Housing, Regional Planning and Transportation, Housing and Environmental Sustainability. Catherine has worked with Better Boundaries for several years including as Executive Director and Campaign Manager before transitioning to her current role as a Board Member.
