Statement on Today’s Utah Supreme Court Hearing
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 11, 2023
SALT LAKE CITY – Better Boundaries Executive Director Katie Wright issued the following statement after today’s Utah Supreme Court Hearing:
“We commend the courage of the plaintiffs in their pursuit of fair electoral districts. These are individuals and organizations who care deeply about fairness and equality under the law and we’re grateful for their principled sincerity. The exceptional legal team of Mark Gaber from Campaign Legal Center and Utah-based Parr, Brown, Gee and Loveless and Zimmerman Booher clearly laid out how the framers of the Utah Constitution allowed for the right and process to reform our government. They also clearly laid out that the Utah Constitution protects our citizens from egregious partisan gerrymandering. Utahns are steadfast in their vocal support that voters should pick their politicians–not the other way around.
We trust the Utah Supreme Court will evaluate the arguments from today and adhere to the principles of justice.”
