Dixie’s interests in public policy and public education led to a B.A. in political science from Wellesley College, an M.S. in special education and a J.D. both from the University of Utah. She worked as a former clerk for the Honorable Stephen H. Anderson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Dixie is also a Professor Emerita of the University of Utah Department of Special Education, retiring in 2007 after thirty years of teaching, service, and scholarship. She was also civically engaged as a member of many community boards and in her son’s schools as they grew up. In retirement, she has served on the SLC Public Utilities Advisory Board, the Utah Citizens’ Counsel, and as the Communications Chair of Utahns for Ethical Government. She received the 2011Distinguished Woman of the Year award from the Salt Lake City branch of the American Association of University Women. In 2013 she received an award from the U. College of Education for Lifetime Contributions to the Field of Education. That same year she received the U. Emeritus Alumni Board‘s Merit of Honor Award.
